Daniel 5 Pride vs Pure Worship

As I've been studying Daniel I've noticed a pattern; God hates pride. When king Nebuchadnezzar became proud the Lord gave him a dream, but yet he needed Daniel a man of God to interpret the dream. He couldn't do it. The vision was to show the king what was about to happen to him because of his pride. He was driven away from man kind, his heart became like the beasts, and he ate grass with the donkeys (Daniel 5:21). When we are gifted it becomes dangerous territory when we know we're good. In ministry it can be so easy after you preach a good sermon, or you lead a deep worship set to have your head puffed up, but here's the thing. When your worship or message becomes about how well you did, then it's no longer worship. When we need to compete or sing or play louder then someone else because we're afraid their better then us, that's not worship. That's our own insecurity and need for man's approval. Again that's not worship. We can tell ourselves it is but it's selfish, because we've taken the focus off our Father and put it on us; it's no longer about God. If it's not about God then it's about you, and God didn't create you to be worshiped; He created us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). It's hard, but we must die to our pride and ask God to humble our heart's and teach us how He wants us to teach and lead for His glory. It's okay to put down the microphone and instruments for a season to seek God on this. It's okay to serve in other areas of the church in that season. But don't let your gifts and talents bloat your head up, because the truth; there's always someone that can do it better then you. Don't let pride destroy your worship or your message, because it was never yours to begin with; it's His!
